Importance of early warning systems ‘cannot be overstated’, according to Tonga’s government

Tonga is a step closer to creating a policy for a multi-hazard early warning system after the final consultation was recently completed. 

Vatulele Tuputupu is the acting CEO of the ministry responsible for disaster management, among other areas, and he emphasised the value of the system for Tonga.

“The significance of early warning systems in mitigating the impact of disasters cannot be overstated, timely and accurate warnings, saves lives,” he said.

Mr Tuputupu said it was vital that all sectors of the community were involved in the creation of the policy, to give a more accurate representation of the needs on the ground.
