As part of the ROADMAP2 project, the Italian Center for Research on Risk Reduction CI3R is looking for good practices in the field of Disaster Risk Management to include in the flash reports and the Solutions Explorer tool developed by the project.

The practices we are looking for are in the focus of European Union Disaster Resilience Goals on enhancing preparedness planning, risk awareness raising strategies and on civil protection authorities’ efficient partnerships with civil society and volunteers.

In particular, we are mapping:

  • Risk and crisis communication practices that have been introduced or redesigned by civil protection authorities after the recent major disasters, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, floods, wildfires, and so on;
  • Practices used by civil protection authorities in engaging and empowering citizens and their communities to collaborate in preparation for or in crisis response;
  • Strategic foresight practices that have been used in disaster risk management planning.

Please help us identify good practices that could be followed by other civil protection authorities at any territorial level by indicating your recommended practice in the survey by 20 March.

ROADMAP2 project

Decision-making in disaster risk management often takes place in response to similar situations in different contexts. Prior knowledge of past experiences may facilitate strategic and complex decisions; however, there is a need for a common and shared understanding of the different cases that may occur and of the solutions already identified by others and successfully adopted. Those solutions may represent a pool of Good Practices that decision-makers can refer to.

The “EuRopean ObservAtory on Disaster risk and crisis MAnagement good Practices: way ahead”, ROADMAP2 project, builds a solid framework to identify and evaluate Good Practices and to engage stakeholders in sharing these directly in the Solution Explorer. With this initiative, we are looking for practices that follow the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction as well as the European Union Disaster Resilience Goals, and adopt a multi-risk perspective. For a more comprehensive overview of the criteria for identifying and assessing good practices, see the ROADMAP2 Framework document.  The practices identified and evaluated as effective, relevant and transferable will be presented in Solutions Explorer as good practices, which can be a reference for civil protection authorities and other stakeholders.
