Infographic: how disasters drive hunger
A world with zero hunger needs disaster risk reduction:
This infographic shows how disasters affect hunger and malnutrition, and how hunger and malnutrition increase disaster risk. More than 80 per cent of hungry people live in disaster-prone areas and in degraded environments that multiply the damage that disasters create. Disasters affect the economic and physical access to food, availability and stability of supplies, and nutrition. Hunger and malnutrition also increase disaster risk. Vulnerable people are less able to cope with increasing and more frequent and intense disasters and their impacts, becoming trapped in a cycle of chronic hunger and poverty.
