This report presents the official United Nations estimates and projections of urban and rural populations for major areas, regions and countries of the world and of all urban agglomerations with 750,000 inhabitants or more in 2011. For the first time, it also provides statistics and analysis on natural hazard risk for 633 of the world's largest cities by combining data from the 2011 Revision of the World Urbanization Prospects with a spatial database on natural hazards prepared by the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University.
