Although the disaster preparedness law was developed three decades ago, it still remains relevant and required only minor fine-tuning.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the Asia Development Bank have collaborated with the Government of Afghanistan and other partners to develop a National Plan for Disaster management as well and Strategy for Institutional Strengthening in Risk Management.
