10th International Conference on Building Resilience

The 10th International Conference on Building Resilience (ICBR) will be hosted by the Cell for Adaptation, Resilience, Security, and Humanitarian Assistance (CARSHA) and the Department of Architecture of the School of Architecture and Design at BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

This international conference series was established in 2008 and has become a globally recognized gathering of experts in disaster resilience and risk reduction that attracts a wide spectrum of academic disciplines and encourages cross-sectorial collaboration.

The nine previous events have been held in Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the UK, and the USA.

Addressing Cascading and Compound Risks of Climate Change, Humanitarian Crises and Disasters​

The main theme of this year’s conference is ‘Addressing Cascading and Compound Risks of Climate Change, Humanitarian Crises and Disasters’. Along with the fast changes in climatic variables, the number of natural hazards and extreme events, conflicts, disputes, crises, security threats, terrorist attacks, industrial and technological hazards, environmental degradation, and diversified forms of emergency conditions is increasing rapidly. We now need to be better prepared for the consequences of diverse hazards and the occurrence of multiple disasters at the same time. Addressing the series of consequences of a single event as cascading disaster risks and the occurrence of multiple hazards at the same time as compound disaster risks has become a major global concern. This conference aims to provide a platform for experts, researchers, academics, practitioners and policy and decision makers from multi-disciplinary backgrounds to share their works, research, and experiences and to disseminate knowledge for reducing compound and cascading disaster risks in the global context.
