2009 Global Assesment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction launch event: Philippines
The first edition of the biennial Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction, launched in the Philippines on 28 October 2009, offers government leaders and their advisers guidance on the essential actions needed to achieve a safer world in the face of natural hazards. The Report’s recommendations are supported by extensive technical and statistical analysis.
Prepared by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) Secretariat, the Report aims to focus international attention on the challenges and opportunities posed by disaster and to consolidate political and economic commitment to disaster reduction.
Agenda:
1. Identify the gaps in planning, preparation and response to the major devastation wrought by typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila
2. Set directions for effective disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation measures and strategies
3. Launch the 2009 Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction
