28th International submerged lands management conference

The 28th International Submerged Lands Management Conference will be hosted in partnership with the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation (CERF) 20th Biennial Conference being held November 1-5, 2009 in Portland Oregon. Partnering with CERF will allow the a number of options to focus on the management of submerged lands and adjacent uplands. ISLMC members may submit papers and or posters to any of the sessions under the themes identified in the CERF listing; the ISLMC members may also submit papers on topics specific to submerged lands and resources for a track to run concurrent to the CERF sessions; and/or the ISLMC may host a ‘Chautauqua’ panel or speaker (for a thought-provoking dialogue).The papers and or posters presented by the ISLMC should address the opportunities, successes and challenges facing managers of submerged lands and resources. Attendees from across the globe and from the scientific and land management fields will be able to share their experiences and gain new perspectives. Partnering with the CERF provides the ISLMC members the opportunity to take part in a broad scientific conference focusing on submerged lands, coastal and estuarine issues.

Topics will include:


Offshore energy facility siting; Public trust doctrine; Resiliency and adaptation to rising sea levels, Declining Great Lakes levels; Balancing public access and protection of underwater natural and cultural resources; Coastal development impacts to the economy and the environment; and Dredging and maritime transport. The Conference is being held in partnership with CERF 2009, the 2009 Conference of the Coastal & Estuarine Research Federation.
