We are so pleased to announce that registration for the 47th Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop is now open! Our program this year focuses on the theme of Changing Climates: Equity and Adaptation in a Warming World.

We hope you will join us for the Workshop from July 10 to 13, the Researchers Meeting that follows from July 13 to 14, and the Practitioners Meeting on July 14.

All sessions will be streamed live on our virtual platform, allowing for maximum audience interaction. This year we’ve added a special group registration rate for the Workshop, so you can view sessions and participate with your friends and colleagues. We’ll also be recording sessions so they can be viewed again when convenient for registrants.

We have a lot more in store for you this year, including all-new Book ForumsCommunity Forums, and Sunday afternoon Listening Sessions. We’ll also be continuing with old favorites, so please see below for more information and please feel free to share the email with others who might want to attend.

Keynote: This year’s opening keynote speaker, Robert Bullard, is a distinguished professor of urban planning and environmental policy and director of the Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice at Texas Southern University. His keynote address will focus on how to design just strategies for adaptation and mitigation and will offer a framework for dismantling systemic racism that creates, exacerbates, and perpetuates inequality and vulnerability.

Program: Thanks to the many thoughtful suggestions we received, we have crafted a schedule that highlights how the hazards and disaster field is grappling with and responding to the realities of a warming world. In addition to training and concurrent sessions, we also have five exciting plenary sessions scheduled.

Special Events: We hope you will join us for a special Career Kickstarter luncheon session on Tuesday. Please also remember to sign up for the 8th Annual Bill Anderson Fund Disaster Dash! The 5K fun run or walk will be virtual so you or your team can join from anywhere in the world.

Updates or Questions: Please notify us of any changes to your email address or subscription preferences on our sign-up page. You can also get Workshop updates and the latest in hazards news from our Twitter feed. If you have questions or require additional information, please email us at: [email protected].

We look forward to welcoming you to the virtual Workshop this summer as we come together to address changing climates, while promoting equity and adaptation in a warming world.
