6th Practitioners' workshop on disaster risk reduction in Asia and the Pacific

The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Southeast Asia Regional Office (IFRC SEARO) are jointly organizing the Practitioners' Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction in Asia and the Pacific to be held on 15-17 September 2009 in Phuket, Thailand, with funding support from the European Commission, Humanitarian Aid Department-ECHO.

The Workshop will include the following proposed themes: 

Sub‐Theme 1: Strengthening linkage between CBDRR and Development

a.CBDRR in national development planning
b.Integrating CBDRR in local development planning process
c.Integrating DRR in community development programmes and projects
d.Linking CBO, RCRC and Local authorities work in DRR

Sub‐Theme 2: Implementing national programmes on CBDRR

a.CBDRR prioritized in national policies and frameworks in DRR
b.CBDRR prioritized in national DRR Plans
c.Partnerships between CBOs, RCRC, local authorities for implementation
d.National tools on CBDRR e.Funding schemes for CBDRR

Sub‐Theme 3: Knowledge sharing on tools, techniques and partnerships on CBDRR

a.Tools and techniques for CBDRR
b.Public awareness and advocacy on CBDRR
c.National networks of DRR practitioners
d.End to End Early Warning systems for effective CBDRR
e.Regional partnerships on addressing various issues of DRR
f.Training and learning on CBDRR

Sub‐Theme 4: Innovative approaches for implementing CBDRR

a.Women, girls, boys and men involvement in CBDRR
b.School as a medium for involving communities in DRR
c.Natural resource management and CBDRR
d.Linking DRR and Climate change adaptation
