The 8th International conference on information systems for crisis response and management – ISCRAM 2011: Open track from early-warning systems to preparedness and training
Minimising risks is one of the most important purposes in disaster management. This track will meet the broad objectives and interests of ISCRAM and would include such topics as Human-Computer Interfaces (HCIs), Risk Perception Analysis and Management.
Risk perception can be considered as a fundamental element for the behaviour towards risks and for the decision to take preventive measures. Therefore, the perception of risks and the influencing factors should be known in order to develop effective information and risk communication strategies during all the phases of the disaster.
On the other side, human-computer interactions hold significant potential for future use in disaster management and risk reduction. They reduce the information load without omission of anything important, and allow interaction with data as in the real world. This could facilitate all phases of a disaster through effective visualisation support for situation analysis, decision making, and communication in the course of disaster management.
This track will present the current developments in these domains for disaster management systems. The aim is to better understand the potential benefits of using these development in conjunction with disaster management.
