Following the success of the communication test of 10 August 2011 involving 31 Tsunami Warning Focal Points from the region, the Eight Session of ICG/NEAMTWS will focus its work on the institutionalization of the tsunami warning system and the launching of the first Regional Tsunami Watch Centres in 2012.

The Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami Early Warning and Mitigation System in the North-eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Connected Seas (ICG/NEAMTWS) was established by the IOC's twenty-third Assembly in 2005 by Resolution XXIII-14 with the mandate to coordinate the establishment of a tsunami early warning system for Europe and the Mediterranean.
