The conference theme, 'Building an Earthquake Resilient Society', challenges participants to re-evaluate the requirements of a truly resilient society beyond the engineering context, and to incorporate the social, economic and human dimensions of earthquake engineering. Keynote presentations that explore aspects of the conference theme will be presented by eminent individuals in the field of Earthquake Engineering at the start of each day.

Three Technical Tours (10-13 and 17 April 2011) provide context for the investigations presented at the PCEE.

The Southwest Pacific Earthquake Resilience Workshop (11-13 April 2011) will draw together lessons from recent earthquakes and tsunamis in the region to develop improved regional resilience.

The Darfield (Canterbury) Earthquake Sequence and its lessons will be a feature of the conference. A technical tour (10-11 April 2011) will investigate the earthquakes impacts and the recovery progress in the Christchurch area.
