Celebrating international day for disaster reduction in Niue
This day will be celebrated on the Thursday 13th October (Niue time) from 9am - 12pm to be held at the Commercial Centre in the main town of Alofi (Niue's Capital).
There will be speeches from key representatives, Secretary to Government Mr.Richard Hipa who is also the Chair of the Niue Disaster Council and Hon. Toke Talagi, Premier of Niue. Poems and short stories will be read out from school representatives; Niue Primary School & Niue High School including the Niue Youth Council. Performances will be showcased based on the theme and slogan for IDDR by village youth groups - Avatele, Tuapa, Liku/Lakepa/Mutalau and Hakupu. A quiz competition will also be held for the children and general public with prizes to win. Refreshments will also be provided.
This activity is coordinated by the Director of Niue Meteorology and Climate Change Mr. Sionetasi Pulehetoa and staff, and Niue Youth Council assisting the Niue Police in which the National Disaster Management Office is based at.
The overall programme is fully funded by SOPAC and in kind contribution by the Niue Government.
