Over the recent years, Copernicus has been providing an unprecedented amount of environmental data at global, regional and local scale. Copernicus data is already being used for climate monitoring and is providing the basis for numerous climate change adaptation strategies.

By taking action on climate adaptation now, there are still opportunities to enhance resilience to climate change and further support adaptation efforts, and for this reason, the EU updated its Adaptation Strategy in 2021.

The workshop will review challenges and opportunities for climate adaptation across Copernicus, Earth observation and the policy landscape. It will also include a stakeholder engagement on climate adaptation and urban areas as part of the Knowledge Centre on Earth Observation (KCEO) deep dive on the subject.

A central aim of the workshop will be to promote the use of Copernicus data for the benefit of public and private users on climate adaptation, and to identify emerging needs and requirements, which all can inform the future development of Copernicus.

The keynote speeches and panel discussions will address topics including:

• climate change adaptation opportunities and solutions with a horizon scanning of key climate adaptation policy elements and will illustrate the challenge of climate adaptation in different areas;
• the current state of research providing examples for available data, tools and applications in support of effective climate adaptation policies in the context of Copernicus; 
• the present-ongoing developments in Europe and globally as well as user needs and emerging adaptation gaps in a changing climate, both from a Copernicus core user and downstream segment perspective;
• the importance of the financial component to support adaptation policies including investments and finance, informed decision making, and public-private partnership to support climate adaptation. 

A common thread to the workshop’s sessions will be to address climate adaptation from global and national scales to regional and urban/local scales.

For each session, speakers from key European or international entities will set the scene before opening on a panel discussion and interaction with the audience.
