Session introduction

Building on the established narratives on the Global Goal on Adaptation, UNEP and UN Women, together with the Asia-Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) have organised the webinar, "Dialogue on actionable steps for inclusive climate resilience monitoring and reporting." The webinar aims to initiate a focused discussion on defining strategic actions on ensuring gender and social inclusivity are embedded in the development of the GGA framework indicators and national adaptation plans, which will inform global adaptation and resilience monitoring and reporting.

UNEP and UN Women will also bring in significant lessons learned from the project, "EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies Programme." Speakers from governments and communities will drive the discussions on developing strategic approaches in ensuring that inclusivity is present in all GGA, target indicators and NAPs.

Session objectives

Having dedicated sessions for Asia and the Pacific, this webinar aims to attain the following objectives:

  • To increase knowledge of sub-national, national, and regional actors to design, implement and monitor gender-responsive and inclusive national adaptation plans aligned to the Global Goal on Adaptation targets.
  • To identify potential areas of tailored capacity building support in integrating gender equality and social inclusion in the adaptation policy cycle.
  • Foster a collaborative community amongst governments, women's organizations, civil society, and other key stakeholders, to collectively promote gender equality and inclusion in the new UAE Framework for Climate Resilience (Global Goal for Adaptation - GGA) and its UAE-Belem Work Program.

Expected outputs

At the end of the sessions, a summary report will be prepared highlighting the following:

  • Summary of knowledge gaps and learning interests from adaptation practitioners, focusing on community and local resilience topics that will inform the design of longer-term capacity building activities.
  • Summary of potential entry points for integrating gender equality and inclusion in the development of GGA target indicators through the UAE-Belem work program.
