The purpose of the 2009 Euro-Mediterranean workshop on risk training is to formally present the Euro-Mediterranean Institute of Risk Science and spur new projects with many courses on associated risks. On 5 October 2009 at the Hotel Marigny, the Mission for the Union of the Mediterranean invited the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic to hold a meeting to formalize the creation of the Euro-Mediterranean Institute in Risk Science.

This multi disciplinary Institute of higher learning - involving 16 partner universities in all Mediterranean countries with two training courses (students after graduation, professionals) - will create the foundations for a common culture and collective action to manage risks throughout the Euro Mediterranean Basin.

This Institute is the result of intensive work by the Euro-Mediterranean Risk, with the support of UNESCO, the Council of Europe, the Mediterranean Union, and many governments of the Euro Mediterranean.
