Community engagement is fundamental to enhancing a proactive approach to disaster risk reduction, as well as developing sustainable and integrated water resource management. Moreover, in contexts where data availability is limited and where extreme climate conditions determine specific hydrological and meteorological patterns, the participation of local communities and other stakeholders is key to informing water management strategies. This talk introduces the role of participatory approaches in water resource management and disaster risk reduction, focusing on specific tools useful for different contexts, sharing experiences from Ethiopia, Myanmar, and across Europe.
