The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (GS/OAS) and the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), with the sponsorship of the Inter-American Network for Disaster Mitigation (INDM), are pleased to announce the Experts Round Table, 'Floodplain Management with No Adverse Impact in Coastal Zones and Adaptation to Climate Change and Climate Variability.'

Background:
In Latin America and the United States, climate change is impacting rising sea levels and appears to be causing more frequent, intensive rainfall events - increasing the threat of flooding, especially in low lying areas.

Adaptive capacity is limited or inhibited by the accelerated pace of climate change.

Experts and policy makers from Central and South America, the Caribbean and the USA will share their knowledge, experience and views on 'Climate Change and Climate Variability,'  by speaking to the flooding threats to coastal communities in light of increasing climate variability.

On the issue of 'Floodplain Management with No Adverse Impact in Coastal Zones,' they will discuss tools and practices to improve community resiliency, taking into consideration accelerated sea level rise and increased frequency and intensity in rainfall in the Americas.
