  • How can the requirements of economic growth and poverty alleviation be balanced with the imperatives of climate change mitigation and environmental protection? How can climate change be seen as an opportunity to re-focus the development agenda in a more sustainable and equitable direction?
  • What are the sustainable pathways for green growth in developing countries? How can growth be sustained without significant costs in terms of environmental degradation and climate change?
  • How can decisions about urban planning, energy choices and forest policies be re-envisioned within the emerging framework of ‘co-benefits’ in climate change (which calls for meeting development objectives while also yielding climate?
  • What are the opportunities available for reducing the impact of climate change? What should be the balance between adaptation and mitigation strategies?
  • What are the pathways and practices to include waste management, landscape maintenance and energy conservation in overall strategy for climate change mitigation?
  • To what extent can potential climate change scenarios be linked with current local environmental challenges? How can policy responses to adaptation be integrated into on-going formal/informal responses at the local level that also emphasize concerns of equity and justice?
  • In what ways can existing indigenous knowledge and practices on environmental preservation and climate adaptation be incorporated into scientific and technologically driven adaptation knowledge?
  • Given the acceleration in the rate of urbanisation in developing countries, can urban sustainability be achieved? Can the cities in developing countries balance the increasing demands for infrastructure and energy with climate resilient development?
  • What mechanisms of governance are called for that offer better interactions across institutions and diverse objectives as climate change challenges are addressed both at the national and regional levels.
  • How can we promote cooperation between developing and developed countries for ensuring green growth through global and regional forums and institutions as well as bilaterally? What role can developed countries play in supporting developing nations in transition to a low-urban, climate resilient future?
