About
Join us to learn about how you can engage in our new campaign Are You Ready? on safe schools and empowering children and youth on disaster resilience. To be launched on the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on 13 October and running to 2025, we’re calling on all policymakers, school teachers, children and youth networks to engage!
This event will explore how empowering young people with knowledge, skills, and opportunities is vital for shaping a safer and more prepared global society. Attendees will hear from a policy expert and a teacher about the resilience-building innovative strategies that involve and engage younger generations in disaster preparedness and response.
In particular, Mr Russel Bacani, Secondary Education Earth Science Teacher from the Philippines, will explain how he introduced the Stop Disasters Game in his class and how this activity contributes to building resilience at the school level. Mr Sokratis Vlachakis, from the Global Alliance for Disaster Risk Reduction & Resilience in the Education Sector (GADRRRES) will elucidate on the Comprehensive School Safety Framework and give some examples of countries successfully implementing the Framework.
The speakers, through their interaction with the moderator and the participants, will offer suggestions to education authorities and schools on how to help students become more resilient to disasters. This fireside chat is an excellent opportunity for policymakers, educators and individuals interested in disaster risk reduction to understand how we can support youth in building a more resilient future.
Join us to connect, learn, and take action to ensure that future generations are disaster-ready.
