Background

The course is aimed at improving the capacity of private consultants and mid-career professionals from various public sector agencies/departments, non-governmental organisations at national and international level – to enable the integration of disaster risk reduction in urban practice through planning, design and management.

The course consists of lectures, workshops and practica conducted through field exercise in the urban areas of Okhla in Delhi. At the end of the course, the participants have to make presentations of practica work which would be evaluated by eminent jury.

Important dates

Candidates will be short-listed first on the basis of their application. Important dates are as follows:

- 13th February 2012 Application deadline for applicants requesting funding
- 17th February 2012 First list of candidates and wait-listed candidates will be informed by e-mail
- 20th February 2012 Application deadline (not applicable for funding)
- 22nd February 2012 The second and final list of candidates will be informed by e-mail
- 23rd February 2012 The last date to send in the demand drafts
- 24th – 28th February 2012 Course sessions in Delhi

FAQ

• What is the duration of the IIHS Short Course?
It is for a period of five days, in Delhi. It will start at 9 am on 24th February and end at 6.30 pm on 28th February, 2012. We would recommend that you be in Delhi on the night of 23rd February, 2012.

• How will the IIHS Short Course be conducted?
It will be conducted by teams in English. Lectures, seminars, hands-on practica, charettes, and cases are the primary methods of delivery.

• Who will conduct the IIHS Short Course?
It will be conducted by an interdisciplinary Indian and international faculty, both academics and practitioners.

• Is funding available?
Yes. A need-based partial funding up to Rs. 5,000 will be given to a select group of deserving candidates. This does not include accommodation costs for which no funding is available.

• What is the deadline for applications?
The last date for applications is 13th February, 2012 for applicants requesting for funding. Applications can be sent in till EOD 20th February, 2012.

•What do I get at the end of the short course?
Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the short course. They will also receive a set of reading materials and access to a unique IIHS discussion group that will be established on IUDRR.
