International conference on forests, people and climate: Changing paradigm

The conference will provide an excellent opportunity for participants to share their experiences and learn from each other. About 60 oral presentations and 40 posters are expected during the conference. Keynote speakers of international recognition will address each of the thematic areas.

Theme: “Forest for livelihood prosperity in the face of climate change”

Aim: to disseminate up-to-date information and practical experiences from natural resource management, where the community plays a central role in biodiversity conservation and livelihood improvement particularly in rural areas.

Thematic areas:

Changing forest and livelihood relations:

How are forest-based rural livelihoods affected by climate change and other stressors? How can community based forest management contribute to adaptation to climate change? What are opportunities for nonextractive forest-based incomes? Special emphasis should be on the consequences for vulnerable groups.

Biodiversity conservation and natural resource management:

How does climate change affect biodiversity conservation and priorities for conservation? How are local forest management approaches and outcomes developing? What are the potentials for community managed forests to contribute to the mitigation of climate change? What are the potentials for biodiversity conservation to contribute to ecotourism based livelihoods in rural areas?

Governance:

What are links between community forestry governance and potentials for climate change adaptation and mitigation? How has forest decentralization affected the outcomes from forest management?
