International Day for Disaster Reduction Celebration in Ibadan, Nigeria
The Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction - Nigeria (GNDR) in collaboration with Centre for Disaster Risk and Crisis Reduction (CDRCR), a Nigerian based organisation who is coordinating GNDR Frontline Project in Nigeria is organising a 'Catch them Young' Programme for Schools in Ibadan to celebrate 2017 International Day for Disaster Reduction.
The Catch them Young School event will feature series of activities including talk-shop, film show, and role play by students all tailored towards the theme for the 2017 IDDR. The goal of the event is to introduce and inculcate the culture of disaster risk reduction, safety promotion and resilience building in the young ones.
The event is targeted at school children in High Schools in Ibadan. Ibadan is an Urban city, the capital of Oyo State with perennial experience of Flood disaster. The event will also address the issues of flooding in the city and the role expected of the children to remain safe at all times.
Also, the event will serve as a venue to educate the participants on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction which is the main advocacy campaign of Frontline Project of GNDR in Nigeria. This is considered necessary so as to make the children Sendai advocacy champions in the next 13 years that remain in its lifespan.
Participation is free and open to all High School students in Ibadan City through their schools, and those that have been invited by the organisers. Registration will be done at the venue of the events
