International day for disaster reduction - Tehran, Iran

On the occasion of the International day for disaster reduction, the Iranian National Platform for Disaster Reduction hosted by the Building and Housing Research Center (BHRC) has organized three national events from 10-16 October 2010, in cooperation with the governmental and non-governmental partners:

1. A national seminar on the theme: "Disaster Risk Reduction in urban areas and resilient cities" on 12 October. This seminar will bring together government, academia, private sector, NGOs and UN agencies to discuss the issue of urban risk reduction in the light of Global Campaign on Resilient Cities.

2. A one week exhibition from 10 to 16 October to present the latest information, expertise and resources on disaster risk reduction and response. Various organizations involved in disaster prevention and response as well as universities and academia and UN Agencies present in Iran will present their sources and inputs at this exhibition.

3. A national student painting competition on the theme" Disaster Risk Reduction and Prevention" will be launched on 12 October.  Fifteen selected best paintings will be awarded in January 2011, and a collection of paintings will be published at national and international levels.
