The purpose of IDCE is to create opportunities for public and private sector industry professionals across multiple inter-related disciplines addressing catastrophic events to convene. Participants are industry leaders whose actions and policies shape the landscape and methods in which industry professionals do their job. In a single location, the attendees can engage in dialogue regarding the challenges and experiences uniquely presented to each industry segment as well as geographic region, territory, country, state and community. The hope is information shared will lead to more effective policies and best practices, further mitigating losses from future catastrophic events.

The programme includes disaster risk reduction sessions on disaster recovery and resilience, in addition IDCE's main programme of US Homeland security, emergency management, emergency response, global security, large loss/claims, and more.
