Local action and partnerships for more resilient people and communities
The challenges brought by globalisation, environmental degradation and over exploitation of natural resources, climate change, migration, poverty, economic and demographic stress, violence, diseases, conflicts, disasters etc are leading to the emergence of new patterns of vulnerability at local and regional levels and widening the gap between the “Haves” and “Have-nots”. The world we live in today is more complex than ever before. It is in this context that this side event is organized to highlight the (1) importance of local actions in strengthening resilience of vulnerable communities as a key contribution for the fulfillment of the internationally agreed sustainable development agenda and the (2) importance of inclusive partnerships at all levels, to support greater resilience toward effective sustainable development. Panelists will be invited to share their views on how local action and partnerships will contribute to greater resilience. A professional journalist will moderate the discussions.
This side event is organized by IFRC in partnership with the Government of Denmark, Ministry of Development Cooperation, the World Health Organisation, United Nations Development Program and the World Bank (tbc).
