Los Angeles International earthquake conference
The City of Los Angeles will host its 3-day International Earthquake Conference with a focus on policy, planning, and preparedness in conjunction with the Great Southern California Shakeout. Academics, policy-makers, emergency managers, and responders from the high-earthquake-risk megacities of the world have been invited to present best practices and policies, new ideas, and cutting-edge technologies that reduce earthquake risk and minimize losses. They will discuss both policy approaches as well as present actual tools used to prepare communities and respond to disasters. All attendees will take a trip during the conference to observe different venues participating in the ShakeOut Drill on 13 November, such as emergency response centers, schools, major businesses, and other institutions.
Additionally, there will be an information exchange session - the Share Fair - in which invited cities and institutions will offer one-on-one interaction and discussion of their respective earthquake programs.
The Conference will highlight what is being done in Los Angeles and California, as well as learn from cities around the globe. The Conference will be presented in partnership with the Earthquakes in Megacities Initiative (EMI), a UN-funded project that focuses on risk reduction in earthquake prone metropolises.
