Virtual SciDataCon 2021 is a free online event from Monday, 18 October – Thursday, 28 October. Tonkin + Taylor along with CODATA, International Science Council and Integrated Research on Disaster Risk are hosting a session on 20 October at 7pm.
Following the postponement of International Data Week to June 2022 (hybrid and onsite in Seoul, Republic of Korea), some of the most significant and time sensitive session proposals are taking place in a Virtual SciDataCon.

The session will discuss the mechanisms and methods on how data could be made accessible, available, interoperable, and standardised for climate and disaster risk assessment and a systematic approach to ensure data coherence. The exposure, vulnerability, socially determined capacities and capacity needs of vulnerable elements in preparedness, response, and recovery require various socio-economic and other physical parameters (including sex, age, ability, ethnicity, income, or geographic location, asset conditions) to measure the progress. Availability at the normative and operational levels in addressing these issues will be discussed. Additionally, with the advent of AI and other data driven tools, the role of data becomes pivotal in understanding both the data integrity, representativeness, as well as the gaps will be discussed.
