Have you ever wondered how climate change will affect South East Queensland? The Griffith Climate Change Response Program invites you to a public seminar which features a presentation by Professor Darryl Low Choy titled "The next big one: preparing human settlements for natural hazards".

This seminar will discuss a number of key findings from a three year study into climate change adaptation for Human Settlements in South East Queensland. It will examine the sectors of urban planning and management, physical infrastructure for local government, coastal management, emergency management and human health. It will examine what should be done now to better prepare a number of human settlement types for future occurrences of natural hazards. These settlement types include: a beach front tourist location; a canal estate; a town centre; a middle suburb; a peri-urban community and a greenfield new town development. What should be the response from state and local government, and what can individual residents do to prepare their settlements for the “Next Big One”?
