Realizing the future we want in Latin America and the Caribbean towards a post-2015 development agenda/ Realizando el futuro que queremos en América Latina y el Caribe hacia una agenda de desarrollo post-2015
Around 400 representatives from civil society, academia, indigenous peoples and the private sector from 24 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean gathered at the conference “Realizing the Future We Want in Latin America and the Caribbean: Towards a post-2015 development agenda,” held in Guadalajara, Mexico on 17-19 April 2013. The conference, organized by the government of Mexico, provided a forum to discuss and enhance regional perspectives in the post-2015 process, adding to the national and thematic consultations organized by the United Nations and to the meetings held by the High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda (HLP).
During three days, the different constituencies participating in the post-2015 consultation (civil society, women’s groups and youth representatives, academia, indigenous peoples, and the private sector) gathered in working groups to deliberate on the eleven themes suggested by the organizers: universality of the post-2015 development agenda; food and nutritional security and health; governance and human rights; environmental sustainability; employment; inequalities; prevention and integral risk management; migration; education; coherence among international institutions and agencies; monitoring and civil society engagement in the post-2015 agenda. Recommendations drafted by the working groups were subsequently discussed with the rest of the participants in panel discussions and included in the final draft outcome document of the conference, entitled “Recommendations from Guadalajara,” which will feed into the post-2015 process.
