Asia-Pacific (APAC) accounted for USD 1.3 trillion – or 44 percent – of the decade's total as catastrophic earthquake, tsunami, inland flood, and tropical cyclone events battered the region. And this is just accounting for natural disasters. The 2020 pandemic is having an unprecedented impact on the region – not only on the lives lost as well as the socio-economic costs – but its cascading impact on other sectors has ground the planet to a halt. This is why efforts to reduce disaster risks and implement effective emergency response to disasters must be systematically integrated into policies, plans and practices with recognition of the issues relating to sustainable development, climate change and poverty reduction.

REDCON 2021 provides the much-needed platform to engage all stakeholders: government, private sector, non-profits, international organizations, academic and research institutions and social innovators, among others; in the value-chain of Disasters and Emergency Management - from problems to solutions that go beyond risk reduction and towards resilience.
