Regional Conference on Strategies and Tools for Integrating Disaster Risk Reduction into Development Planning and Financing

In the context of promoting multi-sectoral development planning to address disasters and mainstream disaster risk reduction and building resilience into broader development planning and poverty reduction strategies, ESCAP is organizing the Regional Conference on Strategies and Tools for Integrating Disaster Risk Reduction into Development Planning and Financing at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

Senior policymakers from ministries of planning and finance and national disaster management authority from countries with special needs of Asia and the Pacific will discuss issues in multi-sectoral national development planning and budgeting in disaster risk reduction, including those related to climate change adaptation. The regional conference will share effective institutional policies and national-sub-national interfaces, strategies on integration of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation for development planning, principles and guidelines for disaster risk reduction planning and financing and assessment tools for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into multi-sectoral development planning.

The conference will outline countries’ gaps and needs for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into development planning and financing processes to be addressed under the project entitled enhancing knowledge and capacity for the management of disaster risks for a resilient future in Asia and the Pacific.
