Resilient School: Let's Build it Together!
The Province of Potenza, after the international recognition received by the UN Office for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) of "World Model for Inclusive Resilience and Territorial Safety" and "Community Champion for Disaster Risk Reduction for the International Day of Disaster Reduction 2015 (IDDR 2015) ", continue its open dialogue with the community and with major groups, dialogues that aim to raise awareness and strengthen individual skills through the sharing of knowledge, so that communities can be fully involved in decision-making regarding the development of the territory.
The Province aims to support and coordinate projects with the communities themselves, solicited through a Public Notice for the Expressions of Interest acquisition for the projects to be shared on the issues of sustainable development, territorial safety, climate change ;and participatory planning.
In this context, the Province of Potenza, in partnership with “CIDI”, “City of Peace and Children of Basilicata” Foundation and “Legambiente Association for School and Training Basilicata” Civil Society Associations, and with the support and collaboration of the Regional Office for Schools and Education, launched the initiative entitled 'Resilient School: Let’s Build it Together'.
The project’s stakeholders are the teachers and students of the schools of all levels in the Province of Potenza, parents, school leaders with the aim of:
- Spreading the culture of Territorial, Community and Individual Resilience to Disasters Risk and Climate Change and building resilient communities;
- Participating and share the goals, actions and results of the United Nations campaings on the project’s issues, in particular the UN-ISDR "Making Cities Resilient" and 'Safe Schools' Campaigns;
- Developing and promoting peace education - citizenship - the respect for human rights - the preservation of the material and immaterial cultural and environmental heritages;
- Developing confidence and collective solidarity;
- Developing and implementing concrete actions of Resilience.
On January 18th, the project will be officially launched and will run up to June 2016 in this first edition.
