The COE will be inviting tsunami scientists and experts in, tsunami preparedness, and disaster response to provide informational briefings and exchange lessons learned during the course of this workshop

Background

COE is a US Department of Defense organization dedicated to international disaster preparedness and management capacity building for decreasing the impact of human suffering. COE held a Disaster Management workshop in Suva, in November 2009 at the request of the US Embassy in Suva following a series of devastating floods as part of Ambassador McGann’s commitment to the Fijian people. The Permanent Secretary for Provincial Development, Multiethnic Affairs, National Disaster Management and Sugar, Mr. Manasa Vaniqi, requested that COE return to conduct a National Tsunami Preparedness Workshop.
