About

In response to the recent environmental challenges witnessed in our regions, including the earthquake in Morocco, the storm in Libya, and the wildfires in Algeria, the UNLEASH Hacks Morocco team in collaboration with the Africa Youth Advisory Board on DRR (AYAB-DRR) and the African Consulting Club (ACC), has taken the initiative to organize a hackathon focusing on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). This event serves as a dedicated platform for collaborative efforts, youth empowerment, and the development of innovative solutions in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action.

The participating teams, composed of individuals aged 20 to 35, will not only engage in competitive ideation but will also assume a pivotal role in crafting policy recommendations tailored to the confluence of DRR and AI implementation in Morocco. This event underscores AYAB and UNLEASH's commitment to addressing climate challenges, contributing actively to SDG 10, 11 & 13, and fostering resilience in the face of environmental crises.

The Hackathon will revolve around three central themes:

  1. Early Warning Systems Reinvented: Explore and develop cutting-edge AI solutions that enhance the effectiveness of early warning systems, ensuring comprehensive coverage and timely responses to various climate-related hazards.

  2. Planet Harmony: Focus on leveraging AI to address challenges related to sustainable resource management, biodiversity conservation, and climate adaptation.

  3. Prosperity through Inclusion: Harness innovative solution to bridge the digital divide and indigenous practices to promote inclusive development, equitable access to information, and socioeconomic resilience in Morocco
