“Forests in Development, Vital Balance”

The XIII World Forestry Congress to be held in Buenos Aires city, Argentina, through October 18 to October 23, 2009 is organized by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and the government of the Argentine Republic. The purpose of this event, of the highest international level within the specialty, is to diagnose the general situation of the forests and forestry sector, so as to recognize trends, adapt policies and raise awareness among the groups involved and interested in the forestry sector.

The first World Forestry Congress was held in Rome in 1926 and, since then, it has been held generally every six years. Considering the WFC held in Argentina in 1972 in Buenos Aires, Argentina is the only country to have been venue twice. Throughout the Congress scientific, academic meetings will be held, fostering an interchange of viewpoints and experiences amongst the different players of the international forestry community. The participants that attend the Congress independently from around the world are also welcome to submit papers or posters which communicate new ideas and provide information about experiences, conceptual models and interesting initiatives. The papers will be published in the Congress Minutes and in the official web page. A trade fair within the premises of La Rural de Palermo will take place during WFC 2009, there will be stands in all sizes and participants will have the possibility of travelling, once the congress in finished, to the most important forestry regions of the country.
