Description
The World Bank is preparing a Handbook on Post-Disaster Housing and Community Reconstruction. The purpose of the Handbook is to provide a decision tool for use in the field by the World Bank staff, counterpart organizations, and other international practitioners who develop and carry out large-scale post-disaster local housing and community reconstruction projects. The Handbook will be supported by a technical website that reflects state of the art thinking on this important subject. The first edition of the Handbook and parallel website (www.housingreconstruction.org) are expected to be ready in fall 2009. The session will present the major lessons learnt from recent housing reconstruction programs and the first draft of the Handbook (which is posted at http://www.tcgillc.com/pdhh.html) for comments by partners.
Expected Outcomes
This will give major development partners a chance for substantive inputs and experience sharing on a major World Bank/GFDRR knowledge product that is expected to influence the practice of housing reconstruction after major disasters in the years to come.
