Description

The Guide for Governments: “Actions for Resilience centered on Child and Youth” is meant for national authorities developing public policies for Disaster Risk Management centered on children and youth. The guide has been developed under a holistic multi-sectorial approach, taking into account the key sectors to build resilience of children and youth, based on the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Charter of Children for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNICEF’s Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action, and considering the strategic objectives and priorities of the Hyogo Framework for Action.
This guide is part of efforts promoted and supported by the Latin American and Caribbean Coalition for Resilience of Children and Youth (CORELAC) formed by UNICEF, RET-Protecting Through Education (coordinators of the Guide development), World Vision, Save the Children, and Plan International. The Guide has been developed in a collaborative approach between cooperation agencies and the participation of national authorities from LAC countries.

Expected Outcomes

The event will introduce the Guide for Governments: “Actions for Resilience centered on Child and Youth” produced by UNICEF and The RET, in collaboration with CORELAC member agencies and government representatives of the Latin America and Carribean region.

The Guide will serve as a basis to engage Governments in a panel discussion on child-centered DRR in a multi-sector integrated approach, followed by working sessions or round tables by sector. Working sessions will address the 10 recommended actions to ensure resilience of children and youth.
