Saint Kitts and Nevis has participated in Caribe Wave 2019, which sought to improve the effectiveness of the tsunami warning system along the coasts of the Caribbean and adjacent regions. Seismologists have predicted that the Caribbean needs to prepare for a much larger earthquake incident, following recordings of a burst of 54 small earthquakes near the north of St. Kitts in early December. Governments should take earthquake preparation into consideration when making public policy, and should take cues from counterparts in California and Japan.

In St. Kitts and Nevis, Taiwan's International Cooperation and Development Fund is setting up four agricultural weather stations to initiate data collection and build climate resilience in vulnerable areas. This project will help agencies link agricultural activity with meteorological data, providing farmers with early warnings of weather variations.

Joan Latchman, a professor at the University of West Indies, warns that a series of small earthquakes that occurred last weekend north of St. Kitts are a sign that the Federation needs to prepare for a larger incident. Damages could be severe given past earthquake death tolls and today's higher population density, intensifying the need for preparation.
