Africa's farmers 'need urgent climate-proof investment'
A lack of investment will derail efforts to ensure Africa's farmers can feed future generations in the face of climate change, a new report has warned according to the BBC. The study recommends action in a range of priority areas, including investing in: bringing the climate change threat to the top of UN and government agendas; sustainable farming systems to help smallholders adapt; research and local capacities to withstand drought, floods and heat stress; and proven community-based adaptation projects.
"When given the right options and incentives, farmers can drive sustainable agricultural development that builds resilience to disasters and greenhouse gas emissions" Dr Ousmane Badiane from the International Food Policy Research Institute told BBC.
