AP: India - Delhi ignores own quake peril warnings

An Associated Press (AP) examination of government documents claims that even though India is aware that Delhi faces earthquake risks, no measures are taken. "At the end of the day, people at the helm of affairs are not doing anything," said Anup Karanth, an earthquake engineering expert.

Experts also urge Delhi to adopt building codes. Hari Kumar, who heads Geohazards India, states that India has developed national standards for constructing earthquake-resistant buildings. However, they are not mandatory and widely ignored.
