A new report by the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering was launched yesterday in Melbourne by Penny Wong, Minister for Climate Change. The report calls for additional funding for water infrastructure and building codes in preparation for anticipated longer droughts and more frequent flash floods.
"Many buildings erected today will still be in use in 40 to 60 years, so it's important to consider the likely effect of climate changes expected over this period on buildings being constructed now," said Senator Wong.
