In an op-ed for the New Age, M Mizanur Rahman asserts that the 'extent people will suffer after disaster depends on the coping strategies they adopt. We all assume that still in our rural areas kinship and neighbourly bond are the agents of favour in the time of distress. We define it as the capitalisation of social network. But when all people in a community or society remain under a continuous threat for their own security of livelihood, who to come forward to help others?'
