The Bangladesh Perspective Plan 2011-2021, Sixth Five Year Plan 2011-2016 and National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) emphasizes the implementation of the National Plan for Disaster Management, writes Prof. Dr. Shamsul Alam, member of the General Economics Division, Bangladesh Planning Commission in his opinion piece in The Financial Express.

Effective disaster management and strengthening the communities' resilience to natural hazards and climate change are some of the goals of the Government of Bangladesh, and it stresses the importance of seasonal flood and drought mitigation, early warning systems, and drawing up a natural disaster insurance scheme.
