Writing for New Age, M Mizanur Rahman, Tania Sufi, Simon Rahman and Syed Shahnawaz Ali describe the intensity of urban hazards in Bangladesh, depicting how disaster risk reduction in urban community is difficult. Introducing the work of Islamic Relief Worldwide-Bangladesh with a community based approach for ensuring safer urban settlement, the authors call for cities and local governments to be ready, to reduce the risks and to become resilient to potential disasters. The op-ed also promotes the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction's campaign ‘Making Cities Resilient’ with this purpose.
