"Bangladesh is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world due to its geological location, high density of population and poverty. Although the international community knows it as a leader in disaster management, with the passage of time, the country's vulnerability to natural disasters is increasing in so far as the possibilities of urban-centred calamities are concerned," write Syed Shahnawaz Ali, Safiya Sayed Baharun and M Mizanur Rahman of Islamic Relief on the pages of The Financial Express. The authors call for more collaboration between NGO's, development partners and the government in the field of urban disaster preparedness. They also highlight that although there is a National Building Code established in the country, it is not always complied with.
