The department of disaster management (DDM) has initiated the safe school programme and community-based disaster risk management in seven dzongkhags according to the Kuensel.

“From last year’s disaster experience, we were convinced that we have to focus on preparedness. During any disaster situation, preparedness is the key thing,” said director, Namgay Wangchuk.

“The department, in collaboration with the ministry of work and human settlement, has also trained more than 360 masons, carpenters and dzongkhag engineers of six eastern dzongkhags affected by the 2009 earthquake on earthquake resilient construction technique,” he said.
