Brazil: disaster and its climate future (Os desastres naturais e o clima futuro)

As reported by Globo.com, Brazil has had 1,713 disaster occurrences since January 2007, according to the Civil Defense Secretariat Department. Authorities say that there is no adequate national action plan to respond to hazards, like the recet floods, in Brazil. Quoted in an interview given to Globo.com, Ivone Maria Valente - who assumed the direction of the Departmento de Minimização de Desastres of the National Civil Defense Secretariat - said that compared to countries like the USA and Japan, Brazil has some work to do to raise awareness about disaster prevention.
