Call for 2024 nominations: Celebrating local leaders in disaster resilience in Asia-Pacific region
Local leadership is among the most understated strengths of successful DRR practices. Recognising the immense role that local champions play and celebrating their achievements is critical. From emergency response to preparedness, anticipatory action to early recovery, the leadership in moving things along is demonstrated by local communities and their leaders.
The Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network (ADRRN), and its Localisation Hub, SEEDS, is thrilled to announce the launch of our 2024 nominations for exceptional local champions for speakers at the Asia Pacific Local Leaders' Forum event.
Since 2016, the Asian-Pacific Local Leaders Forum for Disaster Resilience (APLL4DR), has been recognising the invaluable contributions of local leaders across the Asia-Pacific region. We are now gearing up to celebrate and honour the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), held from 14 to 17 October in Manila, Philippines.
We invite you to nominate exceptional local leaders for the 2024 Local Leaders for Disaster Resilience event. Please submit your nominations by August 10, 2024, in the following areas:
Practical solutions to enhance disaster risk reduction financing
Leaving no one behind: gender responsive and inclusive disaster risk governance
Localisation and urban and rural resilience
Why Nominate?
Help us highlight individuals who are turning 'Think Resilience' into a 'Resilience Movement' and making significant strides in strengthening community resilience.
They will get a platform to share their personal experiences and will be felicitated at special local leaders' event at APMCDRR.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are searching for individuals who are at the forefront of local leadership in enhancing disaster resilience in the Asia-Pacific region. Due to logistics constraints, we can only consider champions from among those already confirmed to attend in person at the APMCDRR. Eligible nominees could be:
- Local representatives (informal or elected)
- Citizen volunteers
- NGO and CBO workers
- Micro or small local entrepreneurs
For local champions who will not be attending, we request you to still share their details in the format below this email. Select case studies will be integrated into an opening showcase.
Nominations can be submitted by completing the form in the link before Friday, August 10, 2024.
